Hello, I’m Ekaterina, the artist behind Ekatto.

The name Ekatto really isn’t anything clever, but simply my first and second name smooshed together.

I was born in Moscow in 2002 before moving to Scotland in 2005 where I have lived ever since. After graduating art school with a honours degree in Illustration from DJCAD, I have been painting and making ceramics ever since! I fell in love with clay in my final year of university and now I am eternally grateful that playing with mud is my career.

The aim of Ekatto is to create cosy, handmade ceramics and paintings for your home. Based in Dundee, my pieces draw endless inspiration from the beautiful landscapes of Scotland and I often indulge in painting mountains with a little bothy nearby. I often only make one of a kind pieces, so every mug, plate, and bowl is completely unique.

All pieces are made with stoneware clay, painted with underglaze before they are bisque fired and glazed with industry standard, food safe glazes. Learning and developing painting skills with underglaze has been a focus of my ceramic practice, using the medium to its fullest to tell stories and make clay a new type of canvas.
